In 2004, Boulder city and county declared the third Sunday in April each year as Nepal Day, when the community celebrates the Nepal New Year. This year the local Nepali community and their American friends in Colorado are going to celebrate NEPAL DAY on the 16th of April 2017 to commemorate the Nepali New Year 2074. Festivities begin on Saturday, April 15th with an evening cultural presentation, and conclude Sunday with the Boulder Nepal Day Parade and group photo session.
Helping Hands Health Education Foundation initiated The Nepal Day Parade in Boulder and officially handed over the Nepal Day Program to Rocky Mountain Friends of Nepal (RMFN) from 2017, but continues to provide help and guidance.
Come and join us in celebrating Nepali New Year 2017 with Nepali Cultural Events. These events are to celebrate the Nepali New Year in “Bikram Sambat”. This is a time of renewal and joy, celebrating the rich Nepali culture in the diaspora with the local American community.
On April 15, the first day of the celebration, we begin with a cultural program at Legacy High School, Broomfield. The cultural program will start at 5: 00 pm with presentations of Nepali dances and songs representing many of the diverse regions of Nepal.
On Sunday, April 16th, please join the Nepal Day Parade dressed in ethnic costumes presenting Nepalese culture. It will be followed by speeches of thanks and appreciation of the Nepali community by local dignitaries, a Lakhe dance and many other ethnic cultural presentations. Gather at the open theater (Band Shell) at the SE corner of the crossing of Broadway and Canyon Boulevard at 12:00 pm (noon).
Rocky Mountain Friends of Nepal (RMFN) is a registered non-profit organization. RMFN aims to promote Nepali culture and tradition and to seek and explore opportunities for broader ties and partnerships with other communities. The main objective of RMFN is to build and strengthen the Nepali community and its friends living in the Rocky Mountain areas through active group participation. RMFN is committed to nurturing an understanding of Nepali culture through the celebration of our native arts and important cultural gatherings in the community.
I hope everyone will join us in this celebration of our community and our connections on this Nepal Day 2017.
